Meet Illinois’s New Governor Bruce Raunor

Bruce Vincent Rauner (born February 18, 1957) is an American businessman,
politician, and currently the 42nd Governor of Illinois.[1] Prior to his election,
he was the Chairman of R8 Capital Partners and the former Chairman of the private
equity firm GTCR, based in Chicago. He was the Republican nominee in the 2014
gubernatorial election and defeated incumbent Governor Pat Quinn.[2]

Starting with the Governor’s Mansion which has long been neglected, one item among many
that have been neglected including the finances  of which Illinois’s credit is at the bottom of the tank.

He seems to be off to a good start as well as crossing the aisle to get a number one item on his agenda:
Ethics in Government. Cronyism, going from government to private is rampant in Illinois and has been for a
good while. Changing the mindset of that revolving door is going to be a shock for some people
He will have a lot of work to do in that area.

Another is dealing with the Medical Cannabis law. The state legislators didn’t go as far as Colorado, but
they are inching close.

The Illinois safety net is in such disrepair that even though he has an eight year term, it’s going to take
a very good team and legislator’s that will work,  to get the tattered remains in some semblance of order.

Chicago is in a pension crisis, though how the Governor can help that situation will be interesting. Chicago isn’t Detroit
by any means, but they have done like a lot of US cities and states by not paying their part into the pension fund,
allowing hedge fund managers to profit more than any administrators, and let them gamble it on Wall Street. The binge
on Wall Street ended with massive pension funds being shattered and retiree’s and near retiree’s looking at a promise
that wasn’t worth the paper it was written on

Can he and his team fix Illinois? Will they have to have assistance from the Federal Government?

We’ll have to wait and see.

  1. He didn’t really answer how the measures he was going to take would affect people, but Illinois is in a mess and has been for a good while.

dang, posting broke up the sentences above the video and I can’t figure out how to fix. 😦
