Last week, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) faxed and sent letters to every member of the Republican National Committee (RNC) regarding an upcoming trip to Jerusalem being organized by RNC Chair Reince Priebus.
The letters expressed concern about the organization paying for the trip, the American Family Association (AFA), which the SPLC has listed as an anti-LGBT hate group since 2010.
In particular, the letters asked RNC members not to lend their good offices to an organization with a long track record of making anti-LGBT, anti-Muslim and other hateful statements. An email to Priebus’ director of communications about this matter was not responded to.
In early December, Time reported that 60 members, or about a third, of the RNC had decided to travel to Israel. But you wouldn’t know that from the calls we made. We left dozens of voicemails and sent many, many emails, none of which were replied to.
In Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Oklahoma and Tennessee, communications directors were unaware of the trip and promised to speak with RNC members and get back to us. They did not. Other state communications directors, like those in Maryland and Louisiana, said they knew nothing of the trip and could not answer questions. In Idaho, a communications staffer told us she had no idea what we were talking about, but that she would have known about a trip if there was one.

Well, well. It seems that the fascists have been planning a nice little putsch. Speak of strange bedfellows.

How does the electorate impact the actions of these scumbag politicians? I research candidates thoroughly and the majrity of the time, I feel like I have to vote based on who is the lesser pile of crap. I want to be excited about a candidate and have a modicum of trust in them. For me, that happens less frequently than I would like,

I know what you mean. It’s always the lesser of two evils, the devil you know, and so on.
While Republicans accuse President Obama of ignoring the constitution, they seem to have not read it themselves.
I don’t trust these men going to any country without both parties being represented.

I see an unholy collusion going on here. Netanyahu and the Republicans seem to be doing an “end run” around the President’s constitutional authority to guide foreign policy decisions. Ironically, the Israelis frequently express resentment over American intrusion into their internal political affairs—even though the definition of those supposedly “internal affairs” are predicated on international agreements, which the Israelis choose to ignore when it suits their agenda. Netanyahu doesn’t seem to have a problem with trying to game the American political system to get what he wants.
The American people should be alerted to the fact that these right wing hawks are conspiring to commit them to a war against Iran. Tell me why a private collusion with foreign powers doesn’t constitute an act of treason. Where does the Constitution give Boehner the authority to negotiate foreign agreements without consulting the executive branch?
And why doesn’t accepting paid vacations from private parties constitute bribery?
